Description of Self Care Agency in Children with Intellectual Disability

Abstract
Children with intellectual disabilities experience limitations in intellectual abilities and adaptive behavior, which affect their self-care abilities. Self-care agency refers to an individual's capacity to care for themselves according to their developmental stage. This ability is crucial to develop from an early age to support the independence of children with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to describe the self-care agency of children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri Pati. This research is a descriptive quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique was total sampling, involving 97 students as respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 63 statement items using a three-point Likert scale: always assisted (1), sometimes assisted (2), and never assisted (3). The results showed that the majority of respondents had self-care abilities in the independent category, with 48 students (49.5%), partially assisted category with 41 students (42.3%), and totally assisted category with 8 students (8.2%). Most children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri Pati are capable of performing self-care independently. However, some still require partial or total assistance in carrying out these activities.
