Literature Review: Results of Leukocyte and Platelet Cell Examination Using The Counting Chamber And Hematology Analyzer Methods

Abstract

The hematology examination is a crucial component of clinical diagnosis, particularly for assessing the quantities of blood cells, including leukocytes and platelets. This examination employed two prevalent methods: the manual approach utilizing a counting chamber (Improved Neubauer) and the automatic way employing a Hematology Analyzer. This literature review aims to evaluate the outcomes of leukocyte and platelet analyses between the two methodologies. Data searches were performed using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases for papers published from 2013 to 2023. A total of 10 journals that satisfied the inclusion criteria were subjected to qualitative descriptive analysis. The review findings indicated that the automated method generally provides outcomes that are quicker, more precise, and more consistent compared to the manual method. However, the manual technique remains relevant in certain circumstances such as remote laboratories or in the absence of automated instruments. There are significant differences in the examination results of the two procedures for both leukocytes and platelets; therefore, the selection of method should be adjusted to the specific conditions and clinical requirements of each healthcare facility.
