Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a condition in which a baby is born weighing less than 2500 grams. Low birth weight babies have quite a concern impact on the process of growth and development of newborns and are also at risk of experiencing infections that can cause morbidity or even death compared to babies who have normal birth weight. The study aimed to determine the relationship between Upper Arm Circumference (LiLA) and hemoglobin levels of pregnant women with LBW cases at Panembahan Senopati Hospital, Bantul. This study used a correlational analytic method with a case-control approach. The sampling technique for the case group used purposive sampling and the control group used a consecutive sampling technique with a ratio of 1:1; 40 people as a case sample and 40 people as a control sample. The data collection method used secondary data in the form of medical records, and the data analysis was carried out using the chi-square test. The chi-square test (p-value 0.02) result showed that there was a relationship between the size of a mother’s upper arm circumference (LiLA) and low birth weight babies. The results of the chi-square test (p-value 0.76) showed that there was no relationship between hemoglobin levels and low birth weight. A conclusion can be drawn from this study, namely that there is a relationship between the upper arm circumference (LiLA) of a mother and LBW cases. In addition, there was no relationship between maternal hemoglobin levels and LBW cases at Panembahan Senopati Hospital, Bantul. For pregnant women and expectant mothers should better understand the importance of having their pregnancies checked so they can monitor the growth and development of the fetus during pregnancy as well as preparation for pregnancy.
