Description of Knowledge About Nursing Caring Among Nursing Clinical Practice Students at RSUD Gondo Suwarno Semarang District Hospital

Abstract
Caring behavior is an essential foundation in professional nursing services that directly impacts patient safety and quality of care. Clinical practicing students are required to possess a solid cognitive capacity regarding the principles, components, and indicators of caring before applying them in a hospital setting. This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge profile regarding theory-based nursing caring and validated caring behavior indicators among clinical practicing students at RSUD Gondo Suwarno. This was a descriptive quantitative study utilizing a survey approach. Sampling was conducted via a purposive sampling technique, resulting in a total of 60 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Data collection took place from October to December 2025 at RSUD Gondo Suwarno using a structured questionnaire that adopted caring behavior indicators from the Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 (CBI-24) and CARE-Q. Data analysis was performed using quantitative descriptive statistics via SPSS software. The demographic characteristics indicated that the majority of respondents were female at 80.0% (48 students), enrolled in the Professional Nurse Program at 41.7% (25 students), with a mean age of 21.72 years. The analysis revealed that the majority of respondents possessed a Good level of knowledge regarding nursing caring, totaling 58 students (96.7%), while only a minor percentage fell into the Needs Strengthening category at 3.3% (2 students). The mean total score of knowledge reached 2.93 out of a maximum index scale of 3.00. Conclusion: Clinical practicing students at RSUD Gondo Suwarno demonstrate excellent cognitive comprehension regarding the fundamental concepts, caritas processes, and practical manifestations of theory-based nursing caring.
