Abstract

Insufficient breastfeeding is often a problem arising on the first postpartum day so that the baby does not get enough breast milk. One of the efforts to increase milk production is oxytocin massage. This study aimed at analyzing the effect of oxytocin massage on breast milk production of postpartum mothers at PMB (Independent Midwifery Practice) Kustirah Palembang. The research is a quasi-experiment study with a pretest and posttest approach with a control group. The population of this study was all postpartum mothers at PMB Kustirah Palembang. The samples were 30 postpartum mothers who were divided into 2 groups; 15 respondents in the experimental group and 15 respondents in the control group, taken by purposive sampling and analyzed by using paired t-test. The results of the study found that before the oxytocin massage was carried out, 13 (86.7%) of the postpartum mothers in the experimental group had insufficient breast milk and after the oxytocin massage, some postpartum mothers, as many as 15 respondents (100%), had sufficient breast milk. The paired t-test statistical test showed that the significant value was p-value = 0.000 < α (0.05). Hence, H1 was accepted. The study concludes that there is an effect of oxytocin massage on the milk production of postpartum mothers at PMB Kustirah Palembang.
