The Effect of Effleurage Massage on the Level of Labor Pain In Normal Laboring Women During the Active Phase I at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital of Yogyakarta

Abstract
One of the complaints experienced by mothers in labor is pain during labor contractions, most mothers do not know how to deal with labor pain, especially primigravida mothers. Effleurage massage is a non-pharmacological method that can cause dictation and relaxation effects so that it helps mothers become more relaxed, create a sense of comfort, and decrease pain response. The study aimed to determine the effect of effleurage massage on the level of labor pain during the first active phase in laboring women at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital of Yogyakarta. The research method was a pre-experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Previously, respondents measured their pain level for 30 minutes using the Numeric Rating Scale. Then, the intervention in the form of effleurage massage was given to the respondents for 30 minutes and the pain level was measured again when the hysteria subsided. The sampling technique used purposive sampling totaling 15 mothers. The statistical test used the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there was an effect on the level of labor pain during the first active phase before being given the effleurage massage and after being given the massage. Data analysis found that the p-value was 0,000. The study concludes that effleurage massage affects the level of labor pain during the first active phase at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital of Yogyakarta. Mothers in labor are encouraged to have effleurage massage as a method to reduce the level of labor pain during the first active phase.
