Abstract

BPH can be treated in various ways, including medication and surgery. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is one of the most common surgeries performed to treat prostate enlargement. Patients undergoing surgery experience anxiety. Preoperative anxiety is subjective a conscious feeling of anxiety and tension accompanied by autonomic nervous system stimulation leading to increases in blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. There is concern that excessive reactions stemming from this fear specifically elevated heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration could affect the success of the surgery. The aim of this study was to describe the anxiety levels and blood pressure of patients prior to TURP surgery. A descriptive method was employed to characterize these parameters. Incidental sampling was used as the sampling technique, and the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaire served as the research instrument. The results showed a mean patient age of 61.05 years, with the majority having a secondary education background. Most patients fell into the moderate anxiety category. Mean systolic blood pressure was 152.86 mmHg, and mean diastolic blood pressure was 94.03 mmHg.
