Managing The Risk Of Violent Behavior Through Prevention Via Assertiveness Training Education At Soerojo Hospital, Magelang
Main Article Content
Abstract
Risk of violent behavior is one of the psychiatric nursing problems that may endanger the patient, other people, and the environment. Appropriate management is needed through nursing interventions aimed at improving emotional control and adaptive expression of feelings. One intervention that can be applied is assertiveness training education. This paper aims to describe the management of risk of violent behavior through violent behavior prevention with assertiveness training education at Soerojo Hospital Magelang. A descriptive case study approach was used involving one patient with a medical diagnosis of severe depressive episode without psychotic symptoms and a nursing diagnosis of risk of violent behavior. Data were collected through interviews, observation, physical examination, documentation, and medical records. Nursing interventions were based on the Indonesian Nursing Diagnosis Standards, Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards, and Indonesian Nursing Intervention Standards, with the main intervention being Prevention of Violent Behavior and the outcome of Self-Control. Assertiveness training was provided through expressing feelings, making requests appropriately, refusing appropriately, and communication practice through role play. After three days of management, the patient was able to participate in anger-control training, perform the techniques taught, express feelings more appropriately, report feeling calmer, and demonstrate decreased verbal aggressive behavior. Assertiveness training education can be used as an independent nursing intervention to help patients control emotions and prevent violent behavior.
