The Influence of Health Education on Health Volunteer Knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in Anggaswangi Grobogan

Abstract

Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency characterized by the sudden cessation of the heart's pumping action. This condition is life-threatening and can lead to the death, particularly if immediate assistance is not provided following the event. The primary intervention is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). In Indonesia, CPR is often not performed by society due to limited knowledge and a lack of willingness to provide assistance. Health volunteers serve as village health pioneers who are expected to perform CPR, especially in out-of-hospital settings. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education on the CPR knowledge of health volunteers in Anggaswangi-Grobogan. A quasi-experimental method (pre-test and post-test design) with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study sample consisted of 28 health volunteers from Anggaswangi-Grobogan, selected by total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires administered before and after the education session. Analysis was conducted using the paired t-test. The results showed a "poor" knowledge among 21 (75.0%) respondents at the pre-education stage to "moderate" knowledge among 13 (46.4%) respondents post-education. Health education was found to influence the volunteers' knowledge regarding CPR (p-value = 0.000). In conclusion, health education has an impact on the CPR knowledge of health volunteers in Anggaswangi- Grobogan.
