Narrative Review: Level of Knowledge of Village Communities Regarding The Use of Amoxicillin Antibiotics

Abstract

Amoxicillin is one of the most commonly used antibiotics due to its wide availability and affordability. However, inappropriate use such as without a doctor's prescription or failure to complete the prescribed course can lead to antibiotic resistance, which poses a serious global health threat. Several studies have shown that the level of knowledge among rural communities regarding amoxicillin use remains low. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge in rural populations concerning the use of amoxicillin through a literature review of nine articles from nationally accredited SINTA journals published within the last ten years. The analysis revealed that on average, 32.24% of the population had a poor level of knowledge, while 48.88% demonstrated good knowledge. This disparity reflects a lack of health education and outreach in rural areas. The study also identified that misinformation and limited access to medical professionals contribute to the high rate of antibiotic use without prescriptions. Community-based interventions involving village health workers, pharmacists, and local governments are needed to promote rational antibiotic use. In conclusion, increasing public awareness in rural areas is a crucial step in reducing the risk of antibiotic resistance and ensuring sustainable treatment effectiveness in the future.
