Overview of Stress Levels in Elementary School Children During Distance Learning During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

It is almost a year Covid-19 become a pandemic in Indonesia spread from Wuhan, China. Therefore, 5 M program was carried out, one of which is to avoid the crowd. This resulted in the teaching and learning system being carried out at home with a minimum of material explanation from the teacher. It can be concluded the level of stress in elementary school students due to lack of knowledge and the large number of tasks that must be done without direct guidance from the teacher. This study aims to determine the level of stress in elementary school students in carrying out home schooling during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research design used was descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The total population was 58 respondents. Sampling was taken with total sampling. Data collection used the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire to measure stress levels in elementary school students. Statistical testing was carried out by using the Univariate test to determine the level of stress experienced by elementary school students. The results show that the level of stress in elementary school students in carrying out the home schooling during the Covid-19 pandemic have different levels, they are as the following 6 respondents (10.3%) experience mild stress, 50 respondents (86, 2%) experience moderate stress, and 2 respondents (3.4%) experience severe stress. Children are expected to always be diligent in studying even though during the Covid-19 pandemic, and if they have problems in understanding the material, do not eager to ask brother or sister, parents or other people to help solving the problem.
