Abstract

Disruption of gas exchange in neonates results in tissue hypoxia, hyperventilation, and respiratory acidosis. Several other effects of asphyxia can occur, such as hypoxia isemic encephalopathy, acute kidney failure, respiratory distress, heart failure, necrotizing enteroclitis, enterocolitis, and even neonatal mortality. In addition to mortality, it can have long-term effects on children that include mental disabilities and neurological problems. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between delivery methods and the incidence of neonatal asphyxia at RSIA (islamic Hospital) Budhi Asih Purwokerto in 2023. This study employed quantitative methods, including an analytical survey, secondary data collecting, and retrospective data analysis. There were one hundred asphyxia newborns in the case samples. Purposive sampling was used for sampling, and Chi-square was used for data processing. According to this study, 18 individuals had mild asphyxia during vaginal delivery, 4 had moderate asphyxia, and 2 had severe asphyxia. In the meantime, 22 respondents experienced mild asphyxia following a cesarean section, 49 respondents experienced moderate asphyxia, and 5 respondents experienced severe asphyxia. The research findings indicate a significant relationship between the method of delivery and the occurrence of neonatal asphyxia (p-value = 0.000 (<0.005) with a sufficient correlation coefficient of 0.315 (0.26-0.55). It is expected that the findings of this study will provide healthcare facilities with more understanding and information. It is intended that this research can serve as a reference for researchers in the future
