Abstract

Section Caesarean (SC) surgery has become an important part of obstetric care and has reduced maternal and neonatal mortality. Data shows that 94.5% of deliveries in 154 countries from 2010 to 2018 had a proportion of SC of 21.1%. In Indonesia, as many as 71.2% of deliveries are likely to be delivered using the cesarean method. The study aims to determine the correlation between post SC pain intensity and breastfeeding practices in post section cesarean mothers at Merah Putih Regional Hospital. This research design is correlational analytic through cross sectional approach. The sampling technique in this study was purposive sampling. The population of this study were 63 post SC patients. The sample used in this study were 39 post SC patients. Data analysis techniques used Spearman Rank Correlation. The results of the Spearman Rank correlation test obtained a p-value of 0.012 p value <0.05 then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This means that there is a correlation between the pain intensity of Post Sectio Cesarea mothers with breastfeeding practices. The Spearman Rank coefficient value is -0.398 with the strength of the correlation between the pain intensity of post SC mothers is quite strong with breastfeeding practices. The correlation between the mother's pain intensity and breastfeeding practises is negative, indicating that as the mother's pain intensity increases, the likelihood of breastfeeding tends to decrease. Hospitals are suggested to be able to facilitate post SC mothers in breastfeeding more, either by increasing the comfort of post SC mothers through innovation programs, by boosting the preparedness of room staff, who must be willing to help and provide breastfeeding information.
