Self Esteem and Work Stress of Nurse Occurrence

Abstract
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health stated that nurses are health workers who have a higher level of stress compared to other health workers. According to the results of a survey by the Indonesian National Nurses Association, around 50.9% of nurses in Indonesia have the potential to experience stress. Nurses often experience dizziness and fatigue, due to the high workload, this causes Turn over to increase which results in a decrease in the quality of service. Stress occurs when a person gets internal and external demands that exceed the resources they have, so that these demands are seen as something that hurts, threatens or is considered a challenge. Self Esteem is one of the individual characteristics in assessing a demand that can cause stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Seft Esteem on the work stress of nurses in the inpatient room of the Salatiga Madya Regional General Hospital. The type of research used was explanatory research with a cross-sectional approach involving 149 inpatient room nurses. Data were analysed was using Chi Square. The results showed that nurses who experience hard stress have low self-esteem (53.9%), while nurses who have high self-esteem experience light work stress (46.1%). The correlation test shows that there was a relationship between self-esteem and the work stress of nurses with a p-value (0.004). It is concluded that self esteem was influenced to work stress of nurse (p-velue 0,004).
